Sabella D’Souza (b. 1995, New Zealand) is a performance based artist whose work interweaves notions of cultural hybridity, virtual identity, along with the transnationality of cyberspace. Currently their research looks at how specific websites (periscope, youtube, twitter) are used in identity construction, with reference to their own diasporic and queer identity.
22/f/aus is a wiki-how to survive the erasure of racial, and queer identity in virtual communities, specifically for women, and non binary people of colour. The work utilises conventions of YouTube make up tutorials to paint a picture of what it means to occupy a space that is considered “white by default” with easy to follow instructions.
